Rep. Handel Responds as Senate Democrats End Filibuster, House Passes CR
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tonight, after Senate Democrats ended their filibuster, the Senate passed a Continuing Resolution (CR) to reopen the government. Just hours later, U.S. Representative Karen Handel voted in favor of the same Continuing Resolution, which passed the House by a vote of 266-150. Nearly every Republican, and just 45 Democrats, voted in favor of the CR.
“This unnecessary shutdown put in jeopardy health insurance for nearly 9 million vulnerable American children, while delaying pay for more than 2 million troops despite their continued work to defend this country," Rep. Handel said. "Tonight, the shutdown is ended.
"But that is not enough. Now, we need a long-term budget that funds our military and the rest of the government as we continue to work towards a responsible solution on the immigration issues we face in this country.”
